Becoming an RSVP Volunteer
VOLUNTEER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The life you change may be your own
RSVP offers meaningful, exciting opportunities for adult’s age 55 and better.
When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others – you’re helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Plus, studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
RSVP is unique in that it allows you to choose volunteer opportunities that best fit your lifestyle. You can use the skills you have gained through your life experience, or you can try your hand at something completely new.
RSVP volunteers serve, without pay, on a regular basis in nonprofit organization within Marion County. Many volunteers use their experience to tutor and mentor children or adults, serve in hospitals, assist in the delivery of meals, act as museum docents, work with community patrols, help with administrative responsibilities, and use professional experiences in the role of career coach.
It is very important that RSVP knows how much time you spend volunteering in the community because:
- The federal government requires us to keep track of your time spent volunteering as a means of assessing our performance.
- It provides information to our legislators about the types of volunteer work and number of hours served.
- It helps RSVP promote seniors as active contributing members of the community.
- It indicates that you are an active RSVP volunteer and thus allows you to participate in RSVP recognition events, and receive all the volunteer benefits..
You’ve gained a lifetime of experience. Now is the time to share your skills and talents by volunteering through RSVP.
